The colour theme was inspired by the hue of the sky after rain. It draws from the traditional colours of Ru ware from the Song dynasty in China, a period when Japan sent many students to learn from China, around 1100. This was a time when simplicity was a prevailing trend in the wealthiest capital cities.

What is Minoware?

Mino ware (Mino yaki) is a type of pottery in which many colours and designs have been created to suit the times and people’s different tastes. As a result, Mino ware uses a variety of techniques and has diverse looks and textures.

Mino ware is made from the soil of Gifu Prefecture, known as Japan’s largest producer of pottery, and the pieces easily blend into daily life.

The diverse designs and styles of Mino ware, which have changed in shape to suit the trends of the times and people’s lifestyles, are the most attractive and unique of all pottery.
